MWC World Walleye Championship – Day 2 Recap
We wrapped up day two of the MWC World Walleye Championship here in Alexandria, Minnesota. After day one, we were sitting in 10th place … and by the end of day two, we’re still holding that same spot. Not bad, but definitely not where we’d like to be sitting going into the final day.
We did improve our weight today, bumping up about two pounds. Yesterday we brought in 12 pounds and some change, and today we finished with around 14 pounds. We struggled a bit to find those bigger overs and solid quality unders. We’ve got one really good over spot that we just couldn’t get those fish to bite today. Hopefully, they’re in a better mood tomorrow.
Overall, we fished clean. There weren’t any missed opportunities that we could see. If anything, we probably could’ve managed our time a little better. A few times, we got caught spending too much time staring at fish on Garmin LiveScope, trying to make them commit. It’s easy to do when you know what’s sitting down there.
This morning started off a little cool again, and the Cold Snap CS-ONE systemworked great. I wore the liners out of the bibs, a hoodie, and my Cold Snap vest — the layering was perfect for the temperature swings throughout the day. For rods, I leaned on the JT Outdoors Panhandler and the Mag Light. Those two setups have been my mainstays all week and continue to perform flawlessly.
Once this tournament wraps up, I’ll be doing a full post-tournament breakdown covering structure, depth, techniques, baits, colors, and exactly how we’ve been catching our fish.
Heading into the final day, our goal is simple ….get five in the box again and hopefully land a better class of both overs and unders. Moving up would be great, but even finishing inside the Top 10 at a World Championship is something to be proud of.
This marks my third time qualifying for the MWC World Walleye Championship, and every year I’m reminded just how special it is to be here competing against some of the best in the sport. No matter how tomorrow shakes out, I’m thankful for the experience ….and already looking forward to qualifying again in the future.
