Why Lake Sharpe Keeps Calling Us Back!!!!
Exploring Lake Sharpe: A Guide’s Perspective in July
Back in July, I was running guide trips and doing some pre-fishing on Lake Sharpe, getting ready for a two-week block of outings with clients. As I cruised up and down the shoreline, one thought kept coming to mind:
Lake Sharpe is one of the most unique and versatile fisheries I’ve ever worked on.
Every stretch of this lake (river reservoir ) offers something different
From shoreline structure to deep-water breaks, submerged cover to mid-lake flats, and even the overall fish quality—it’s constantly changing and always keeping you on your toes.
What Makes Lake Sharpe Special?
One of the reasons we gravitate toward Lake Sharpe throughout different parts of the season is the consistency of the bite. While it may not always produce the biggest trophies like its neighbor Lake Oahe, Lake Sharpe often offers better numbers and more hook sets per day, which is especially great for newer anglers, kids, and folks looking for fast action.
• Good eater-size walleye are common
• Occasional trophy fish still show up, even if they’re less frequent
• Dynamic fishing zones depending on the time of year and weather
• Non-stop action with multiple hooksets, making for fun and engaging days on the water
You never know what to expect from one stretch of the lake to the next. That’s part of the fun—and part of the challenge.
Choosing Between Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe
When you book a trip with Tom Tom’s Guide Service in Pierre, South Dakota, there’s a good chance we’ll be fishing either Lake Oahe or Lake Sharpe….sometimes both, depending on weather conditions, fish movement, and what’s producing best that week.
• Lake Oahe: Larger structure, deeper basins, more trophy potential
• Lake Sharpe: More consistent bite, higher volume of fish, dynamic shorelines
No matter which lake we fish, we’re always focused on putting you in the best position to catch fish and make memories.
